All votes were "one vote/one gym".
I. Jeff thanked Indy School for hosting State Meet. Then he asked that everyone sign a State shirt for Joseph Mulholland from Fusion Gymnastics. Joseph has terminal brain cancer and was unable to compete. Billie Jamison, Joseph's coach, reported that Joseph wanted to meet the Hamm twins and, thanks to the Make a Wish Foundation, was able to do that. One is able to view this visit by going to www.makingtheolympics.com and going to the Make A Wish video.
II. Formal financial statement was not provided. However, Barry Pruett noted that he still needed head taxes from some of the meets that had been hosted.
III. Previous Minutes were available but not requested.
IV. Webmaster requested that the coaches in the state be a little more diligent in getting info for the webpage.
V. State Clinic/State Meet A. Jeff noted that according to the way things had been done in the past, the 2007 State Clinic should be "coaches only". He then discussed that we could have a two day clinic and have the coaches come on one day and the coaches and gymnasts come in the other day. Rick Mitchell made a motion that we go with the 2-day clinic and the motion was 2nded. There were only 2 votes against the 2-day clinic, so the motion was passed. The 2007 State Clinic will be 2 days.
B. There was then discussion that the 2008 State Championships and the 2007 State Clinic should be hosted by the same gym. This will allow everyone to have access to the gym where the State Championships are due to be held. No formal motion was made, but everyone agreed that is what should be done.
C. State Meet Bids were asked for. Andy Poe, Gymnastics Michiana, presented his bid for State noting that his gym hosted State in 2006 and he hadn't heard any complaints about it. He also noted that there was ample seating (down the side of the gym instead of the end) allowing more people to see better. Also, the gym has just put in a new floor and his gym also has air conditioning. Dennis Winslow, Geist Sports Academy, presented his bid for State noting that an addition was being built onto his gym and there would be plenty of room and good equipment. After the bids were presented, Jeff Greene said each gym needed to vote via email before June 1st. Andy asked Sonja if a "poll" could be set up on the webpage. She noted it COULD be done, but email would be easier.
VI. Future Stars
VII. Jeff called for the R & P to be updated. He noted that Barry Pruett was nice enough to create the Indiana R & P several years ago, but there were some things that needed to be updated. Specifically, the information about the Indiana State Banquet, the State Championships Awards and how they are purchased, and the color of the State Championship Team Banners. After discussion, Gene moved that the changes discussed be made and Billie 2nded. The motion passed unanimously. Sonja stated she could make those changes on the webpage as soon as she got home.
VIII. Regional Qualifying scores were announced. Jeff reminded everyone to make sure that entries were turned in before they left the meet. Noting that the fees for Regionals are $85/gymnast and $40/team. He also noted that the coaches need to specify which team competitions they are entering on their entry forms.
IX. Nominations for Elections for Board A. State Chairman - Jeff Greene agreed to continue serving for 2 more years B. Vice-Chairman - Bo Morris C. Treasurer - Barry Pruett D. Secretary/Webmaster - Sonja Rupe E. Indiana Technical Director/Judging Assignor - Zach Gagnon
X. Elections - see above
XI. Open Discussion
Andy Poe brought up how he'd like the State Championships to be a little more special in the awards department. Gene said that was mandated from the National level to make things consistent across the board. He also said any discussion about changes to the awards given would need to be started at the Regional level. Chad Ford brought up that he thought designing a qualifying score for State would make it more special. Others didn't agree. Gene noted that we lost 30-35 gymnasts from the State Meet this year due to a non-sanctioned meet held at A-Plus and if we mandated a qualifying score that may scare more away. This year there were around 240 boys that competed at State Championships. There was discussion about what else could be done to make State more special. Barry Pruett noted they could be listed on the webpage. Bo Morris stated that the National level mandate in just a guideline. The State meet has the freedom to do what is good for the state. He gave a couple of examples to what Texas has done. Gene suggested that Jeff discuss with Jeff Robinson at the USAG about what is allowed to do and to bring it back to the Fall Meeting. Discussion was tabled.
Gene Watson noted that Jeff Robinson is wanting to know what the coaches would like to address at Mini Congress/Congress. He asked that the coaches email him with what they are interested in so those ideas can be incorporated at Congress.
XII. Meeting was adjourned at 2:00 p.m.
