I. Jeff thanked Gymnastics Michiana for hosting State Meet and welcomed C.J. Johnson, the head coach of the University of Chicago.
II. A formal financial statement was provided and reviewed. Jeff Greene noted that Barry Pruett moved to California in February and had to close the account that took him 15 months to open. Bo and Jeff reopened a new checking account as well as a savings account in order earn some interest.
III. Previous Minutes were available but not requested.
IV. Future Regional Championships were discussed. Illinois will host Regionals in 2009 and then it will be Indiana's turn in 2010. Jeff suggested that maybe a couple of clubs could work together to pull it off. He then asked Chad Ford if DeVeau's might be interested. Chad said he was interested and most likely could, but will need to do research to see if he can find a venue. Zach Gagnon noted that he and Andy Poe are actually checking into the facilities at Notre Dame. Chad volunteered to help wherever he could. Jeff reminded everyone to make sure that entries for this year's Regionals were turned in before they left the meet.
V. Webmaster requested that the coaches in the state be a little more diligent in getting info for the webpage. Gene Watson made a motion to pay $2 per each Indiana athlete that is registered with the USAG to be paid out of the Indiana budget to pay Sonja Rupe for services done on the webpage. After some discussion, Bo Morris seconded the motion and it was passed unanimously.
VI. New Routines - The new routines for the next quadrennial have been created. There are several dates when these routines will be reviewed: National Clinics May 11th & 12th in Battle Creek, Michigan; May 23rd & 24th in Houston, Texas; June 7th & 8th in Los Angeles, California; and, Geist Sports Academy Clinic July 6th. Jeff asked if the state might be willing to split the cost to send Zach Gagnon to the National Clinic (which costs: $185). Chad asked if there was any way to get that info without going to one of those clinics and when is the deadline to get into the National Clinic. The info won't be available until July/August if not attending a clinic and the deadline is April 1st. Discussion ensued. Geist's camp will cost $60 and run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Dennis said that if 6 or more gymnast per gym are registered then coach will be free. Jeff Greene suggested that the State will pay 1/2 the cost to send Zach Gagnon to the National Clinic by having $10 for every coach that goes to the Geist clinic go towards that amount. Chad made Jeff's suggestion a motion and Don Schipper seconded. Motion was passed unanimously. Gene suggested that Dennis confirms that those plans would be okay with the owner of Geist Sports Academy.
VII. State Clinic/State Meet A. Jeff asked if anyone had any comments about the State Clinic held at Gymnastics Michiana in the Fall. Chad said he liked it and Andy Poe agreed. Andy said he liked the two separate days for the clinic.
B. Rick Mitchell said he thought it would be better to have the coaches on Saturday instead of Sunday so they could use what they learn when the gymnasts are there. Bo noted that there would be a lot of families that wouldn't let their sons come on Sunday. After a little discussion, it was decided to keep clinic days the same: Saturday for gymnasts and Sunday for coaches.
C. State Meet Bids were asked for. Dennis Winslow, Geist Sports Academy, presented his bid for State by passing out hard copies of his bid to everyone. With no other bids presented, Jeff Greene mentioned that bidding could stay open until June and everyone could vote via email before June 1st. Gene made a motion that since Dennis prepared and presented a bid and was obviously able to host State that he believed that we should vote for GSA to host State. Chad seconded and the motion passed unanimously. The 2008 State Clinic and the 2009 Indiana State Championships will be hosted by Geist Sports Academy. There was some discussion about WHEN clinic should be and it was decided that late August might be better than September.
VIII. Open Discussion
Chad Ford inquired about the combining of the 7-9 year olds in level 5 due to the numbers. Andy and Jeff addressed the question and Chad was fine with that.
Andy Poe noted that all Level 4's and 5's are now receiving certificates and participation medals. And the new medals are a little more than expected. After discussion, Chad made a motion that the host club and the state split the cost (1/2 & 1/2) to pay for the participation medals each year. Andy seconded and the motion was passed unanimously.
Andy also noted that in order to build the funds in the Indiana State account, that clubs should attend more meets in state during the season.
XII. Meeting was adjourned at 2:00 p.m.
