JO Scoring Proposal:
Jeff presented the JO Scoring Proposal from Bill Foster for the JOPC and USAG.
The proposal is calling for FIG rules and scoring for optional gymnasts, Levels
8-10, with some JO modifications as in the past. There was much discussion
concerning this proposal, some for and some against. Our Clinician, Yuejin Sun,
weighed in and thought it was a good thing because the rest of the world is
embracing it and the U.S. has been slow in adopting the new scoring format.
There was concerned raised about judges being able to handle the A and B Panel
deductions at JO competitions and the confusion it could bring when judging both
compulsory and optional gymnast in the same rotations.
Also discussed was that the Compulsory athletes would also be changing. Levels
4-7 would have a maximum score of 15.00 and have the larger execution deductions
of .1, .3, .5 and .8 for a fall.
Many wanted to wait until the new quadrennium to begin with the new format for
Compulsories, but felt OK about the Optional athletes starting this year.
Motion: In favor of the change, but would to see it implemented next season.
