1998 Region 5 Team Enhancement Program

Objective: To maximize our team and individual performances at the 1998 JO Nationals in Battle Creek by providing experiences for athletes, coaches, and judges to interface in special meet situations.

Three meets have been designated as Regional Team evaluation meets, Windy City, January 17-18...Cereal City, February 21-22...Indy Classic, March 7-8. The top 8 gymnasts from the class 1-3 session on Saturday qualify to compete Sunday. The Sunday session would involve a modified Olympic rotation using two judges per event. The judges would be selected from the panel selected to judge the JO Nationals and they will give immediate feedback to the athletes and coaches regarding routine construction, difficulty evaluation, and execution. It is hoped most will take advantage of this opportunity to see and be seen by the judges that will be evaluating their performances at the Nationals. Former team members should compete in their regional team uniform--we want those aspiring to the team to be motivated by seeing the rewards. The advantages as seen are that the athletes will perform 12 routines in two days--just like Nationals. Judges who will be evaluating these routines will be able to help in routine construction and encourage progress and improvement thoughout the session and judges will have the opportunity to judge together to insure an accurate interpretation of the rules.
