Men's Gymnastics
Regional Team Program
Future Stars Trampoline Curriculum
2005-2006
3/17/04

Trampoline Sequences will be added to the 2004 Region V Regional Future
Stars Evaluation. These sequences will have no barring on advancement to
the National Evaluation. Participation in this introductory program will
only be held at the Regional Level. Individuals participating in the
Future Stars Program are not required to participate in this
introductory trampoline program. Its purpose is to help facilitate
further education and trampoline ability for the developing elite
athlete.
There has been some discussion of how to implement trampoline into the
Future Stars Program Nationally. Air-sense is widely recognized as an
area of great importance such as Dance, Flexibility, and Strength.
Unlike these important areas, Trampoline is also a competitive Olympic
Event. Our intention is not the development of Competitive Trampoline
but rather use trampoline to help facilitate Men’s Artistic Gymnastics.
The Region V Coaching Staff will help to implement this introductory
program through, The Regional Future Stars Evaluation, The Region V
Development Camp, and The Regional Future Stars Workshop.
This is an introductory trampoline program that will undergo several
changes. Your participation will help to formulate further development
and Coaches Education with regard to trampoline.
Originally developed in 1999 for possible introduction into our National
Future Stars Program, these sequences have been observed and tested at
Buffalo Grove Gymnastics Center for a period of 5 years. Observed were
boys in the age divisions of (8-9), (10-11), and (12) participating in
the Future Stars Program and having a moderate, trampoline ability
level.
There are two Trampoline Evaluations for each age group. Trampoline
Sequence #1 is a basic routine common to all age groups. Trampoline
Sequence #2 is a skills routine, which is progressively more difficult
for each separate age group. In addition, education regarding other
aspects of trampoline such as the “Cruise”, and “Multiple Flipping and
Twisting” will be discussed and developed through Regional Training
Camps, Workshops, and Clinics.
Those that choose to participate in this introductory program will be
awarded medals in each age division at the 2004 Regional Future Stars
Evaluation. The Trampoline Evaluation is only open to those that are
also participating in the Futures Stars Regional Evaluation.

Explanation of Selected Parts
Sequence #1 – The Basics Routine has fundamental skills that demonstrate
control and help to introduce body shapes, twisting, rotation, visual
cues, and elements of the “Cruise”. All of these will be utilized in the
future.
Sequence #2 - The Skills Routine incorporates somersaulting skills, and
helps to evaluate twisting continuity, control of landing, body
position, and multiple flipping visual cues for Men’s gymnastics.
In general, the continuity of forward and backward twisting can be
observed as well as evaluated, having both the Backward Full and Forward
Barani included. Important Air-sense will be developed with regard to
visual cues and landing anticipation skills. This sequence helps to
develop important visual cues (Air-sense) for the Back In-Full Out
(Parts 1-2), Full In-Back Out (Parts 2-3), Barani In-Back Out (Parts
4-5), Double Back (Parts 5-6), and Double Front (Parts 7-8).
Anticipation for rebounding is also developed for Bounding Backward and
Forward Somersaults. The routine is made up of all basic single
somersaulting skills that are feet to feet, emphasizing landing. The
routine is 8-9 parts long, which is similar in length to the other
Future Stars routines.
Evaluation
Each participant will perform two trampoline sequences. Each trampoline
sequence is worth 10.0 points. Sequence #1 is a basic routine, and
sequence #2 is a skills routine. Each of these sequences will be added
together for a total possible score of 20.0 points. For example:
Sequence #1 Basic Routine = Start 10.0 Score = 6.7
Sequence #2 Skills Routine = Start 10.0 Score = 8.4
Total Score = 15.1
The trampoline evaluation will follow a combination of trampoline
deductions as well as FIG Deductions used in Artistic Men’s Gymnastics.
The following are a few areas of evaluation that will be considered.
1. Being off center
2. Lack of height
3. Angle deductions
4. Form deductions
5. 1.0 for omitted part
6. 2.0 for omitting the Backward Full
7. A deduction of .4 for an unintended intermediate bounce = (Extra
swing)
8. A deduction for insufficient Pike in the Pike Open
9. A deduction for an added part / facilitation.
